Come On Down to McCormick Place and Check Out the Latest Brooms!

Rex the Wonder Dog... I am sorry.

What else really needs to be said?

Unfortunately, it is time once again for ISSA's annual convention and, therefore, over the next five days, I will be either working or incredibly drunk. Either way, I will not be able to post until next Monday (October 9). That means two very important things: (1) you will have to go a whole week without access to my Random Sports Thoughts and without seeing a reference to Punky Brewster or Barry Foote; and (2) this will be your only warning that you now have less than a week to shop for RT reader "Parrotmama's" birthday, which happens to be on the 9th. She loves penguins, Swarovski crystal and early 1980's DePaul memorabilia. So if you happen to come across a Marty Embry autographed basketball, Lemone Lampley's used practice jersey or Tony Jackson's anchor necklace...

She has also been desperately seeking a photo of Dallas Comegys sitting on a Cincinnati curb and absolutely anything that has to do with Ken Stout and Sam Manella.

RSFC readers: Tom will guest write the WIR this week (either tomorrow or Wednesday) and it will be posted on the league home page. My only contribution is: I hate Brett Favre.

See you next week. Please be sure to come back to the RT for my wrap-up of the Chicago baseball season, my thoughts on the Bears and the rest of the NFL, and an in-depth discussion about why new Blackhawks' winger Martin Havlat reminds me of Jo from the Facts of Life. Okay, I made that last one up.

May photos of the official RT cheerleaders from Tampa Bay and the knee-high boots/ navel ring image of Jessica Alba get you through the next week. See you next Monday and thank you for your continued support of the RT. I really appreciate it.

The official RT postseason baseball picks:

Division Series

Yankees over Tigers in 3
Twins over A's in 5

Mets over Dodgers in 4
Padres over Cardinals in 5

Championship Series

Yankees over Twins in 5
Mets over Padres in 7

United States and Two Cities in Canada Series

Yankees over Mets in 6

Wrap up of Chicago baseball season:
Cubs - Very disappointing;
Sox - More disappointing;
Dusty - Out;
Ozzie - In;
Mc"Fail" - Out (How does Hendry keep his job?);
How did Juan Pierre lead the league in hits?!?!

Hopes for next year (realistic): Bring back Ramirez and Pierre and let Murton play every day. Use money on pitching - starters, relief, coaching (somewhat odd failure to announce the rest of the coaching staff was also not invited to return).

Love your name for the "World" Series.

Sam Manella is now a lawyer in the south suburbs. I run into him every now and then. I'll work on getting his autograph for parrotmama.

I predict...

Cubs sign Joe Girardi as manager (shocker, huh?)

Sign Ramirez to 4 year deal, he breaks leg in preseason walking to first base

Hendry keeps Murton in LF and signs Alfonso Soriano to play 2B. who proceeds to commit 30 errors in the field in 2007.

Juan Pierre signed to 3 year deal. Leads NL in hitting at .341 and in SB with 58 in 2007 but falls off to .245 with OBP .298 in 2008.

Ronny Cedeno and Freddie Bynum get traded to PIT and are never heard from again.

Wood - gone

Prior - DL until June, makes 5 starts before going on DL for rest of season.

In need of a starting rotation, Jim Hendry signs Jamie Moyer and Steve Trachsel to one year deals. They combine for 10 wins and 70 strikeouts.

Carlos Zambrano wins Cy Young going 21-6 with an ERA of 3.21 and 10 HR.

2007 record 75-87

What are the "two" cities in Canada?

I can't believe Dusty finally hits the road and we don't have a post! You seem to get as many days off as Harry and the Tiny one...

Impressive is the apology to my boy SEXI REXI. And for those of you questioning Juan Pierre just remember back to the middle of september when the cubs finally hit the cellar and the dustbuster said of Pierre and A Ramirez "These Guys are Just Hitting Their Stride, Right When We Need Them To." If anything BittheDust ever did that should have gotten him fired it was that quote. Let's just hope that Mr. Grossman doesn't find his stride and lead the Bears to the cellar...I lived in Denver during the "Wonderchild's" reign in Bronc colors and nothing made the fans of the Orange Crush want to burn their Karl Meklenberg jersies like watching Griese throw two picks in the 3rd quarter to surrender double digit leads 3 weeks in a row. Cross your fingers and pray for the Wonderpuppy's knees every night bears fans.
